SAN ANTONIO, TX – Each year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its “Man & Woman of the Year” fundraising campaign, and this year Mari-Michelle Wahlstrom, CEO of Media Digital Source was honored to be nominated as a candidate.
On February 20, 2020, the Wahlstrom Family was hit with the single most devastating news of their lives. Their son, Andrei (4 years old) was diagnosed with pre-B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. They spent the next 20 days in-patient at the hospital and more than 700 days since supporting him through routine lumbar punctures, blood and platelet transfusions, daily chemotherapy, steroid pulses, weight gain, weight loss, hair loss, and more.
They have made many friends in the pediatric cancer world on this journey, some of them have experienced relapse and others even death. While there is not yet a cure for blood cancer– survival rates and treatment protocols have dramatically improved over the last 40 years.
